Review and Book Launch - The Tooth Adventures of Fanny Nightsky by L Hollar

Have you ever told stories to a child?

If you have then you'll know that the apparent simplicity of children's stories is an illusion. It is not enough to have interesting ideas, appealing characters, and exciting situations.

Children's stories are stories. Real stories. Distilled down to their purest elements, every aspect must work. Remember, they are intended for the most demanding audience of them all. Children are wonderfully liberated critics. They have few, if any inhibitions in their critiques. "Daddy this is boring, can I go outside and play?" "Mummy I don't want that story, tell me the good one about ... (add your own favourite here)"

Well L Hollar has written the story of Fanny Nightsky. All the elements of a great children's story are there. Fanny is a tooth fairy. Fanny is settled and good at her job, until she is saddled with Zip, a fairy in training. In 'The Tooth Adventures of Fanny Nightsky' we follow the pair on their adventures.

I'll let Fanny explain for herself....

“Good sweetness, Zip, will you hurry up?”

“I’m trying, Fanny, but I don’t know what to bring with me.”

“Pixiesticks! Zip, we’re just going on a blog tour. Why are you putting all those cat treats in there?”

“Just in case there are cats, Fanny. Remember what happened the last time there was a cat?”

“Don’t remind me of that Cat-astrophy.”

“Fanny, why are you laughing?”

“I’m not laughing, Zip… ok, I’m laughing. I can’t help it. You should have seen the look on your face when you were cornered by that cat.”

“Shhh… Fanny, I think there are kids listening.”

“Where? Zip, I don’t see anyone.”

“I thought I heard a child. They’re very sneaky you know, always trying to catch us with their fairy traps.”

“I think your imagination is working overtime, Zip. Now what else have you got in your bag… Peanuts and Popcorn! ZIP! What are you doing with all those copies of our book?”
